Media Manager (MM)

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position leads and coordinates all public/external-facing communication activities to enhance the media visibility for all organizational and programmatic operations of CHRICED. The Media Manager is responsible for planning, delivery and maintenance of all media relations and visibility for CHRICED. S/he also provides training and technical support to all CHRICED staff with responsibility as spokespersons for programs, technical issues and/or representing CHRICED at local and international events. S/he leads the development of media strategy for CHRICED strategic plan and program priorities. Additionally, the postholder will spearhead the development and implementation of digital strategies and campaigns of CHRICED’s initiatives on indigenous peoples, human rights, youth employment and participation, maternal and child health, forced-child begging, social protection, climate change, SGBV, etc.

Furthermore, the postholder is expected to support sub-grantees and community partners in improving their advocacy capacities, providing training on advocacy techniques, particularly in media (both new and traditional), and equipping them with campaigning tools, including briefings on the aforementioned campaign issues.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • STRATEGIC COLLABORATION

Work closely with management to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with CHRICED’s mission and objectives. This strategy should be specifically tailored to effectively reach and engage CHRICED’s target audience, ensuring that all communications are consistent, impactful, and reflective of the organization’s values.

 

  • LEADERSHIP, CONTENT CREATION AND MANAGEMENT
    • Take the lead in creating, revising, and disseminating a wide range of content types covering all strategic priority and program areas for CHRICED.
    • Oversee the design, production and dissemination of all CHRICED in-house communication materials including brochures, program capacity statement, and public speaking opportunities for senior management.
    • Oversee the planning and production of CHRICED newsletters, policy briefs, website materials, speeches for the Executive Director and senior management to ensure organization’s writing standard and language.
    • Lead the promotion and cultivation of CHRICED brand in collaboration with the Executive Director, Asst. Director of Programs and Development and Grants Manager.
    • Create strong presence for CHRICED locally through public speaking, community involvement, special events and other media initiatives
    • Lead the writing, dissemination and presentation of press releases, organizing press conferences and briefing events for CHRICED and in collaboration with CHRICED partners.
    • Lead the branding and reputation promotion and management of CHRICED through innovative actions and support to the Executive Director, Asst. Director of Programs and the Development and Grants Manager.

 

  • MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION:

Oversee the production of various multimedia content, including:  

  • Project Impact Documentaries: Create engaging documentaries that showcase the impact of CHRICED’s projects on communities and stakeholders.
  • Podcasts: Develop and produce podcasts that discuss relevant topics, share success stories, and engage with the audience in a conversational format.
  • Jingles: contribute to production of jingles to promote CHRICED’s initiatives and enhance brand recognition.
  • Radio and Television Segments: Lead CHRICED media outlets to produce segments that highlight CHRICED’s work and reach a broader audience.
  • MEDIA RELATIONS
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, coordinating interviews and acting as the organization’s spokesperson. This involves:
      • Responding promptly to media requests and providing accurate information.
      • Preparing key messages and talking points for interviews to ensure consistent communication.
      • Building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists and media outlets within and outside Nigeria to facilitate positive coverage of CHRICED’s work.

 

  • RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
  • Cultivate and sustain productive relationships with journalists, influencers, networks, and other media representatives. This includes:
    • Maintaining an up-to-date media database that tracks contacts and interactions.
    • Engaging with media professionals through networking events, press briefings, and one-on-one meetings to foster collaboration and support.

 

  • BRAND REPUTATION MANAGEMENT
    • Identify and leverage opportunities to enhance CHRICED’s brand reputation. This may involve:
      • Organizing publicity events, such as press conferences, community outreach programs, and promotional campaigns, to raise awareness of CHRICED’s projects and initiatives.
      • Monitoring public perception and media coverage to proactively address any issues that may arise.

 

  • DESIRABLE CRITERIA/QUALIFICATION

Education: Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree will be added advantage), in social sciences, Communication Studies, Development Studies, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure a foundational understanding of the social dynamics and communication strategies relevant to the role. 

 Experience: 

  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience is required, with at least three (3) years spent in a comparable position.
  • Candidates should have a minimum of three (3) years of proven skills and experience in both direct and indirect advocacy and campaigning within the development sector. This experience is highly
  • desirable as it indicates the candidate’s capability to influence policy and engage stakeholders effectively.
  • A comprehensive understanding of policy issues and the policy landscape in Nigeria is essential, particularly concerning governance, accountability, citizen engagement, elections, livelihoods, and gender matters. This knowledge will enable the candidate to navigate complex policy environments and contribute meaningfully to discussions and initiatives.
  • Proven skills and experience in managing effective media relations are necessary. The candidate should be adept at building and maintaining relationships with media representatives to enhance the organization’s visibility and advocacy efforts.
  • A solid understanding of NGO media and advocacy efforts within the development context is required. This understanding will help the candidate align the organization’s goals with broader development objectives and effectively communicate its mission.
  • Experience in capacity building and/or training is highly beneficial. The candidate should be able to develop and deliver training programs that enhance the skills and knowledge of team members and stakeholders.
  • Strong conceptual, research, analytical, and writing abilities are essential. The candidate must be able to synthesize complex information, conduct thorough research, and produce high-quality written materials that effectively communicate key messages.
  • A demonstrated understanding of gender and diversity issues as they pertain to media work is crucial. The candidate should be committed to addressing inequalities and promoting inclusivity across all key responsibilities, ensuring that diverse voices are represented in advocacy efforts.
  • Experience collaborating with Civil Society and Media Networks is important. The candidate should have a track record of working effectively with various stakeholders to advance common goals and foster partnerships that enhance advocacy initiatives.

  • Salary: N10,200,000 – N14,400,000 annually based on experience

  • CHARACTER:

    HOURS OF WORK:

    CHRICED maintains a 40-hour weekly work schedule for all staff.  Details of starting and finishing times, which may vary in accordance with CHRICED needs, will be communicated to successful applicants. There will be times when post holders will be required to work outside of the normal office hours.
