  Assistant Director of Programs (ADP)

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Programs (ADP), reporting directly to the Executive Director (ED), will oversee a diverse array of programs, ensuring their effective implementation and overall success. The ADP will manage program managers and provide updates to the management regarding progress, performance, and the operational effectiveness of the Resource Centre for Human Rights & Civic Education (CHRICED). This role will focus on facilitating cohesive team management and development, program execution, as well as maintaining quality control and evaluation standards. In this newly created position, the Assistant Director of Programs will assist the ED in overseeing an expanding team and a variety of projects. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • LEADERSHIP:
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to provide leadership and direction to programming including program strategy development, planning, implementation, and tracking.
    • Provide technical and operational support to all project officers throughout project design, work planning, implementation and evaluation to achieve CHRICED’s strategic and programmatic goals.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Resource Acquisition/Fundraising Lead/Advisor to achieve financial sustainability and resilience for all core program areas for CHRICED- including donor research, cultivation, prepositioning, and writing proposals, and relationship management.
    • Collaborate with the Finance & Admin Director to ensure adequate provision of all services and support for the program team while also supporting timely and satisfactory donor reporting and donor management.
    • Effectively represent CHRICED and communicate the work and brand of CHRICED as a thought leader to peer organization, donor partners and other partners and associates.
    • Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among program areas.

 

  • TEAM MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT:
    • Develop and implement a system to evaluate the skill, experience, and professional development needs of all staff.
    • Implement a professional development program to address employee experience and skill gaps.
    • Work with staff to develop objective performance measurements across all CHRICED offices (Abuja and Kano state) to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation and goal setting for all employees.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, respect, learning and collaboration throughout the program team, and between the program team and the rest of CHRICED.
    • Assist in recruiting, hiring, and oversee training and orientation of all program staff.

 

  • PROGRAM OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT:

o     Oversee the preparation and approval of annual work planning with all program officers. 

  • Oversee the preparation and approval of annual program implementation budget in collaboration with project officers, Director of Finance & Admin, and the Executive Director.
  • Develop appropriate frameworks for project tracking and timely reporting for donors and critical partners.
  • Collaborate with the M&E Lead to develop appropriate templates and timelines for monitoring and evaluation including training for project officers, field assessment (whenever necessary) and oversee mid-term, end-term evaluation as may be contracted with donor partners.
  • Supervise all program and project officers to ensure timely resolution of all bottlenecks to project management at all times.
  • Promote and spearhead innovation, efficiency, collaboration (within and outside the program unit).
  • Lead risk analysis and security planning for all project planning and implementation.
  • Oversee preparation and submission of quality project reports timeously and satisfactorily for all donors and partners up to closeout. o Collaborate with the Communication team to ensure proper dissemination of program accomplishments- including active and quality utilization of CHRICED website and social media platforms.
  • Keep senior management informed with detailed and accurate reports or presentations

 

  • DESIRABLE CRITERIA

This is a remarkable opportunity for an individual with experience in team management to enhance and further develop a successful program. The ideal candidate will oversee programs, collaborate with the Executive Director, and work in partnership with a high-performing management team.

The specific qualifications required are as follows:

  • A minimum of master’s degree required (post master’s degree or higher will be added advantage), preferably in law, international development, marketing, public relations, applied research, or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience, with at least three years in team management capacity.
  • Proven success in developing and assessing program models, as well as selecting and effectively implementing innovative programs.
  • Proficient in utilizing technology as a management reporting tool and experienced in collaborating with information technology personnel to create and execute program evaluation systems.
  • Strong project management capabilities, with a track record of managing complex, multifaceted projects that yield measurable outcomes and program expansion.
  • Experience working within a high-performance, collaborative, and constructive peer environment.
  • Expertise in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to enhance their levels of responsibility, span of control, and performance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of human resources, employee performance, improvement plans, and corrective action policies.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex systems and experience in negotiating mutually beneficial agreements.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Personal attributes of integrity, credibility, and a strong commitment to and passion for CHRICED’s vision and mission.

 

EMPLOYMENT TYPE  – Full-Time 

  • Salary: N14,400,000 – N18,000,000 annually based on experience

    CHARACTER:

    HOURS OF WORK:

    CHRICED maintains a 40-hour weekly work schedule for all staff.  Details of starting and finishing times, which may vary in accordance with CHRICED needs, will be communicated to successful applicants. There will be times when post holders will be required to work outside of the normal office hours.
