CHRICED Mourns the Passing of Comrade Abiodun Aremu

October 15, 2025

The Resource Centre for Human Rights & Civic Education (CHRICED) expresses profound sorrow over the untimely demise of Comrade Abiodun Aremu, a distinguished advocate for social justice and an unwavering defender of the rights of the working class. His tragic death in a hit-and-run accident has left a deep void in Nigeria’s civic and labour movements.

Comrade Aremu was a towering figure whose contributions transcended activism. As a founding member and leader within the Joint Action Front (JAF), the United Action for Democracy (UAD), and the Amilcar Cabral Ideological School, he played a pivotal role in shaping progressive discourse and mobilizing citizens toward transformative change. His intellectual rigor, organizational acumen, and principled commitment to equity and solidarity earned him respect both locally and internationally. Notably, his dedication to global justice was recognized by the Cuban government with the prestigious Friendship Medal.

CHRICED mourns not only the loss of a visionary leader but of a comrade whose courage, integrity, and compassion inspired generations. His legacy remains a guiding light for all who continue the struggle for a just, inclusive, and democratic society.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, comrades, and all those whose lives he touched. May his memory endure as a source of strength and resolve in the pursuit of justice.

Signed
Comrade Ibrahim M. Zikirullahi
