CHRICED Mourns BUK Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Wakili
The Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of the Resource Centre for Human Rights & Civic Education (CHRICED) express deep sadness over the demise of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Haruna Wakili, who passed on earlier today. His death leaves such a pain in our hearts because of the bond of friendship, comradeship and solidarity, which he demonstrated for all the years we knew him.
Professor Wakili was a visionary leader whose professionalism and utmost dedication were reinforced by his knack for excellence. He was a man who deployed his abilities both as an academic and administrator to work for the good of society. Towards the realisation of the ideals of a better society built on equity, justice and human rights, he worked tirelessly in conjunction with our Centre on issues of development and democratic governance. Professor Wakili as helmsman of the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research and Training (Mambayya House) was untiring in his belief that notwithstanding the challenges besetting our fledgeling democracy, think tanks could contribute their quotas towards the promotion of democracy and development in our country.
Indeed, we mourn the passage of a dear friend, patriot, and a man who believed strongly in working for the good of the majority. CHRICED prays the Almighty Allah to grant Professor Haruna Wakili eternal rest. We also pray Allah to grant his family the fortitude to cope in this difficult time.
Signed:
Comrade Dr. Zikirullahi M. Ibrahim
